EnviroKlenz Laundry Detergent Powder Overview

EnviroKlenz is a company best known for its household air purifying products. Its Mobile UV Air Purifier has long been our top pick for cleansing the air of pathogens.

While air purifiers and laundry detergent may seem unrelated, these two product lines work using some of the same principles. Much of the effectiveness of the EnviroKlenz purifiers comes from the earth minerals used in the filter.

These all-natural minerals work to denature organic and inorganic pollutants and odors in the air. The company put this same principle to use when creating its laundry detergent. By combining many of the same purifying minerals with sodas and natural cleansers, they were able to create an effective chemical-free detergent that breaks down stains and removes odors.

EnviroKlenz Laundry Detergent Powder is made of seven mineral-based ingredients:

  • Sodium Carbonate – also known as “washing soda” and a principal ingredient in most soaps
  • Laureth-7 – a derivative of coconut oil that acts as a cleansing agent
  • Sodium Chloride – more commonly known as table salt; creates a viscous liquid when mixed with water
  • Sodium Metasilicate – a type of salt that helps remove organic matter from fabrics
  • Magnesium Oxide – a mineral used to denature organic odors like sweat
  • Zinc Oxide – a mineral used to denature sulfur odors including smoke
  • Aluminum Oxide – a mineral used to denature ammonia-based odors and fragrances

This simple powder has no fragrance and is made to be gentle on fabrics and skin.

It is marketed for use in standard, front-load, and HE washers. The gentle, all-natural ingredients make it a good choice for homes with babies and pets, and those with occupants that have sensitive skin or allergies.

In addition to this simple laundry powder, the company also offers laundry enhancer liquid and a liquid laundry deodorizer.

I had a chance to try EnviroKlenz’s laundry detergent powder first-hand in my own home. I’ve reviewed dozens of natural laundry products and know how hit or miss they can be. But, given this company’s reputation for purifying, I was excited to give this product a try.

How EnviroKlenz Laundry Detergent Performs

EnviroKlenz laundry detergent comes in a simple plastic pouch that is easy to store and easy to dispose of. Each 400g pouch contains about 20 scoops of detergent powder, enough for 20 medium loads, 40 HE loads, or 10 large loads.

I appreciate that the product is packaged to reduce resource consumption. But I think they could take this further by opting for a paper pouch rather than plastic.

The powder itself is bright white and 100% odor free. If you hate scented laundry detergents, this product is one to try.

Cleaning Performance

EnviroKlenz Laundry Detergent Powder with scoop on washer

Laundry odors have been an issue for us ever since we moved into our new home. The washer and dryer are in the kitchen, which means the washer lid is usually kept shut. Any damp rags and towels thrown in throughout the week tend to get pretty stinky by the time laundry day comes around.

Since this detergent is marketed mainly for odor elimination, I was more than excited to give it a try.

The first test was a large load that included both week-old stinky cleaning rags and our standard assortment of clothing. I used two scoops, given the load size, and ran the washer on the standard setting. The result was a dryer full of laundry that smelled, well, like nothing at all!

I continued to test the detergent multiple times over the following weeks.

In terms of removing odors, it worked incredibly well in every situation I threw at it. The detergent was just as effective in eliminating odors when used with hot and cold water. And it had no trouble keeping up with even the largest loads.

In terms of stain removal and overall cleanliness of the clothing, it did a fairly respectable job. My clothes came out just as clean and bright as they do with a standard grocery-store all-natural detergent. Stains, especially oil, still required pretreatment methods for full eradication.

The only downside I noticed was that after a few loads using cold water, a bit of a residue would begin to form in the drum. This wasn’t as noticeable when I used warm or hot water in the wash, however. Following the directions of putting the powder straight into the drum with the water and then adding the laundry also seemed to help prevent this issue.

Overall, I thought this detergent worked exceptionally well for removing odors from laundry. It did a fairly good job with stain removal and cleaning fabrics in general. While it had some of the common downsides found with most natural detergents, I would still highly recommend it for those looking for a simple, versatile, and gentle fragrance-free laundry detergent.

EnviroKlenz Laundry Detergent Alternatives

If you’re after a fragrance-free all-natural laundry detergent, EnviroKlenz is a great choice. It destroys odors with ease and contains simple ingredients that you can feel confident using even around the most sensitive of individuals.

But if you prefer a little fragrance to your all-natural laundry detergent or need something that can tackle tough stains, there are other options.

For a gentle, all-natural detergent that will leave your laundry smelling fresh and bright, we recommend Truly Free. Their Home Laundry Wash does an excellent job cleaning fabrics without harsh chemicals. The simple mineral and essential oil ingredients remove dirt, grime, and odors while leaving your clothes smelling pleasantly fresh.

If it’s stain-removing power you’re after, Molly Suds is a great choice. In addition to gentle minerals and sodas, this natural detergent contains powerful enzymes to denature and remove stains. This product is available in both unscented and scented varieties so you can find the best option for your needs.

As someone who prefers a little natural fragrance in my laundry detergent, EnviroKlenz won’t be my go-to detergent. However, its odor-eliminating power is so awesome, I am absolutely going to keep this product on hand for those smelly loads of mildewy towels, pet bedding, and stinky cleaning rags.
