Pricing and Availability

One of the first differences you’re likely to notice between these two products is the prices.

The Deebot X2 Omni carries the higher price tag, coming in at just under $1,500 at its list price.

The Deebot T20 Omni, on the other hand, comes in at just over $1,000.

However, you can often find both models discounted by 20 to 36% on both Amazon and ECOVACS’ website. During this past holiday season, the X2 went on sale for over 50% off, so always be on the lookout for sale offers.

The Deebot X2 Omni is available in black or white. Meanwhile, the Deebot T20 Omni is only available in white.

Vacuuming

t20 and x2 side by side cleaning

In terms of overall vacuuming prowess, the Deebot X2 Omni takes the win. Not only does it have 2,000 Pa higher suction than the T20, but it also has the benefits that come with that unique square body design.

The square shape allows the X2 to clean corners better than the T20. But more importantly, that square body allows more room for a larger vacuum opening. This means a bigger brush for fewer passes and quicker cleans.

But the Deebot T20 Omni also has some noteworthy advantages. It has two spinning side brushes which makes it more effective at cleaning up scattered debris. It is also the only one of these two vacuums that was able to clean my high-pile rug without erroring out.

Both of these robots feature an all-rubber floating main brush and highly effective auto dust bin emptying. The X2 has a slightly larger onboard dustbin but both have an option for frequent auto dustbin emptying to avoid clogs.

Mopping

In my opinion, the best feature of these vacuums is one they share. Of course, I’m talking about the auto hot water mop wash.

This great attribute allows the station to automatically scrub and rinse the spinning mop heads with hot water. This happens throughout the mopping process to help avoid streaks and clean your floors.

Both stations feature large clean and dirty water tanks to power this feature. And both robots automatically lift the mop pads when they encounter carpet.

The only major difference between the two robots in this department is the Deebot X2 Omni’s auto-clean setting. This setting uses AI to determine the best mop and vacuum settings based on the environment.

Additional Features

These vacuums navigate extremely well and are great at avoiding even low-profile obstacles.

The Omni T20 operates using industry-standard LIDAR with the advantages of TrueMapping 2.0 technology. It uses True Detect 3D to avoid obstacles.

You can view the T20 obstacle avoidance test here.

The X2 Omni uses the much less common semi-solid state LIDAR with updated TrueMapping 3.0 technology. For obstacle avoidance, it relies on RGBD.

The X2 Obstacle avoidance test can be viewed here.

Both robots performed wonderfully in terms of getting around the house and avoiding small toys and cords. The only noticeable difference was that the Deebot X2 Omni automatically populated the map with different furniture as it initially mapped my home.

This great feature allows you to send the robot to clean under or around specific furniture items using the voice control option. The T20 also has this furniture-cleaning option, but you must add furniture to the map to use it manually.

Both robots utilize the ECOVACS app and have similar home screens. The major difference here is the added functionality of the security camera in the Deebot X2.

In the app for this robot, you have the option to access the camera and remotely control the robot to manually or automatically patrol your home. You can even speak through the robot to talk to your pets or yell at intruders.

Long Term Durability

ECOVACS Deebot X2 Omni: This model’s durability benefits from its solid-state LIDAR navigation and square design, which allows for a lower profile and potentially reduces the risk of damage from low furniture.

The use of solid-state LIDAR may offer a robustness advantage over time, as there are fewer moving parts compared to traditional rotating LIDAR systems. However, I found the black finish of the X2 Omni shows dust and hair easily, which might not affect durability but could impact the aesthetic appeal over time.

ECOVACS Deebot T20 Omni: Similar to the X2 Omni, the T20 Omni is built to last, featuring advanced navigation and mop lifting technology.

Its capability to continually handle high-pile carpets without errors is a testament to its robust design and adaptability, showing that it’s well-equipped to handle various floor types without sustaining damage.

The inclusion of a hot water mop pad cleaning feature also helps maintain cleaning efficiency, which is important to the vacuum’s long-term performance.

Maintenance Requirements

ECOVACS Deebot X2 Omni: Maintenance for the X2 Omni involves regular emptying of its large-capacity dustbin, which is facilitated by the auto-empty feature, and managing the clean and dirty water tanks for the mop system.

The unique square design does require a small amount of additional attention to ensure no debris is trapped in corners.

Also, the need to clean the black finish regularly could be considered a minor drawback in terms of maintenance effort.

ECOVACS Deebot T20 Omni: The T20 Omni’s maintenance involves similar tasks, with emphasis on the omni-station’s capabilities for dustbin emptying and mop pad cleaning. Its large footprint means finding a suitable space for the station that accommodates the cleaning and drying of mop pads.

Additionally, the hot water function for mop cleaning ensures the mop pads are effectively sanitized, reducing the frequency of manual cleaning.

Pet Friendliness

ECOVACS Deebot X2 Omni: The Deebot X2 Omni shines as a pet-friendly cleaning solution. Its AI-driven sensors effectively detect and navigate around pets, their food bowls, and even unfortunate surprises they might leave behind. This capability is crucial for avoiding messes being spread around your home during cleaning cycles.

The model’s OZMO Turbo 2.0 Rotating Mopping System with a 15mm intelligent mop lifting caters well to homes with pets, combining a robust 8000Pa suction power with a mopping function that tackles pet hair efficiently, ensuring floors are not just swept but also sanitized.

Another standout feature for pet-friendly homes is its edge-to-edge cleaning ability. The square design allows the X2 Omni to clean closer to walls and corners, where pet hair tends to accumulate, by 30mm more than its predecessors. The 200mm roller brush enhances its cleaning efficiency, ensuring that no pet hair is left behind in a single pass.

Its compact and low-profile design allows it to easily glide underneath furniture to reach hidden pet hair, making it an ideal choice for maintaining a clean environment for both pets and owners.

ECOVACS Deebot T20 Omni: The Deebot T20 Omni offers a slightly different approach to pet-friendliness. Its hot water mop pad washing feature is an important one here, ensuring that the mop pads are thoroughly cleaned after each use, which is beneficial for homes with pets as it maintains the mop’s effectiveness at picking up pet hair and dander.

Its comprehensive vacuuming and mopping capabilities, powered by intelligent navigation and robust suction, make it adept at handling pet hair on various surfaces.

While the T20 Omni excels in general cleaning, its edge cleaning may not be as efficient as the X2 Omni’s square design, which could be a slight drawback for pet owners who struggle with fur accumulating along baseboards.

However, its thorough room mapping ensures that no area is left untouched, compensating for any edge-cleaning limitations.

Pet owners should note the need for regular maintenance, such as emptying the dirty water tank resulting from the hot water mop washing, to keep the system running smoothly.

Integration with Smart Home Ecosystems

ECOVACS Deebot X2 Omni: The Deebot X2 Omni excels in smart home compatibility, offering a wide range of integration options that cater to users across various platforms.

Voice command functionality is robust, with support for Alexa, Google Assistant, and even Siri Shortcuts, providing an inclusive experience irrespective of the user’s preferred smart home ecosystem.

The ability to create custom Siri commands for iOS users adds a layer of personalization that’s both practical and forward-thinking.

The central hub for controlling the Deebot X2 Omni is the ECOVACS HOME App, which I liked, with its user-friendly interface and comprehensive control features. From quick mapping to adjusting cleaning preferences and setting schedules, the app allows users to tailor the cleaning process to their exact requirements. The app’s ability to facilitate quick mapping is a quick way to create a detailed floor plan without much fuss.

The announced Matter compatibility for 2024 promises even greater integration capabilities and we’ll be a welcome addition.

ECOVACS Deebot T20 Omni: The Deebot T20 Omni, while sharing some similarities in smart home integration with the X2 Omni, focuses on core features that enhance the cleaning experience.

Google Assistant support and management through the ECOVACS App align it with the X2 Omni in terms of basic functionalities. However, it doesn’t offer the breadth of voice assistant integrations found in the X2, potentially limiting its appeal to users heavily invested in Apple’s ecosystem.

Is the X2 Omni Worth the Extra Money?

If you want a highly effective cleaning robot that’s hands-off, both Deebots make a wonderful choice.

The Deebot T20 Omni does a great job cleaning hard flooring and is the only option for cleaning high-pile carpets. It has all the same great station features as the X2 but is about 50% cheaper, making it a great value.

However, the Deebot X2 Omni has a lot of extra features that make it more than worth the extra cost. The added AI cleaning technology makes it more efficient and the unique shape makes it more effective.

The X2 can’t tackle high-pile carpets, but it does a wonderful job on standard carpets and hard flooring. Plus, it has the added security camera feature that comes in handy for checking on your home and any pets inside it.
