Stylish and Functional Air Purifier Complete with Peace of Mind

The Alen BreatheSmart 75i Air Purifier is built to wow. When paired with the high-performance Allergy + Odor + Smoke filter, it effortlessly removes 99.99% of pathogens, allergens, and odors from the air. With nine front panel finish options, you can customize this powerful purifier to match any room in your home.

If you are looking for a dependable air purifier that can run continuously to clean the air in medium to large rooms, this is your product. Like all Alen purifiers, it comes with a limited lifetime warranty and excellent customer service. You won’t have to worry about buying a replacement product if you encounter manufacturer defects or if the purifier stops working even years into the future.

But all that power and unmatched lifetime warranty will cost you. The BreatheSmart 75i has a price point of about double that of similar products. If you expect to use your purifier only occasionally, save some money by going with the Okaysou AirMax 10L or Blueair Blue Pure 211+ instead.

Alen BreatheSmart 75i Overview

The Alen BreatheSmart 75i is a user-friendly, powerful purifier for personal or office use in rooms up to 1,300 square feet. The standard product comes with an H13 True HEPA filter to remove 99.99% of allergens from the air. This is a huge mprovement compared to older models that can only remove 99.92% of allergens.

Additional filter options for smoke and odor purification are also available for an additional cost.

This model comes in nine striking finishes to match any home aesthetic, including original white, oak, and espresso.

Like all Alen purifiers, this product comes with an industry-exclusive forever guarantee and lifetime warranty. The company is known for its premier customer service and dependable products. The BreatheSmart 75i is one of their best-selling and most powerful machines.

With a long list of features, a sleek and customizable design, and dependability backed up by a lifetime warranty, you can’t go wrong with this premiere air purifier.

Features and Benefits

There is a lot to like about this air purifier, but there are inconsistencies in labeling and advertising. Keep reading to find out more about the key features, benefits, and disadvantages of the BreatheSmart 75i.

Air Purifying Performance

alen 75i hepa filter

The BreatheSmart 75i is rated by the company for rooms up to 1,300 square feet. However, the calculated Cubic Feet per Minute—a rating that determines a purifier’s overall cleaning power—suggests this unit is better suited for spaces closer to half that size.

When used in appropriately sized rooms, the BreatheSmart can cycle through the entire air volume about five times per hour to produce exceptional results. The standard HEPA air filter removes 99.99% of allergens, while the optional odor and smoke filter combinations quickly remove VOCs, toxins, and pollutants.

The filter system can remove particles larger than 1 micron from the surrounding air, making this system a superb choice for targeting pathogens like bacteria and viruses.

The unit also features an ionizer function for additional cleaning and sanitizing power when necessary.

Look and Design

air purifier in dining room

The BreatheSmart 75i stands at just over two feet high and weighs about 27 pounds. Like other air purifiers in this power class, these units make a substantial addition to any room. But the sleek, low-profile design and different finish options make it easier to blend this unit into your home’s decor.

The air intake vents are positioned along the unit’s sides, making it possible to place this purifier flat against a wall and out of the way. Two small wheels on the back and a hidden handle make it conveniently easy to move the unit.

But our favorite design aspect has to be the customizable front panel. Options like marble, graphite, and white-washed wood transform a utilitarian machine into a decorative piece of furniture.

Noise Level

Another thing we love about this product is how quietly it operates. On the lowest setting, this purifier puts out 25 decibels—about the same as a whisper. Even on the highest fan speed, the BreatheSmart only makes about as much noise as a refrigerator.

The unit’s specific noise frequency spectrum falls into the range of pink noise. One step below white noise, pink noise encourages better sleep as well as increased concentration and productivity. This unique feature makes the BreatheSmart the perfect addition to the bedroom or home office.

If the low-noise output is an essential feature for your home-use appliances, you’ll want to check out these quiet portable air conditioner options.

Energy Efficiency

Even at its highest setting, this Alen purifier uses only about 45 watts of energy. As their website points out, this is less than the power used by a lightbulb. If you plan to keep your purifier running consistently, energy efficiency is an important factor to consider.

The BreatheSmart 75i is Energy Star certified and designed with multiple power-saving modes, including auto, which adjusts the fan output based on the room’s air quality. It also has a timer mode perfect for freshening the air after cooking disasters or other smelly accidents.

Ease of Use

Alen BreatheSmart 75i Air Purifier control panel

The BreatheSmart purifier has an intuitive interface with seven buttons for easy programming.

You can turn on and off the ionizer with a single press of the button, as can the auto mode setting. Pressing the speed button allows you to cycle through all five fan settings to set the power output manually. You can also engage the timer button with a single press.

Beyond these basic controls, there is also a button to activate the child lock. This is useful in situations where the buttons may be bumped or accidentally engaged.

Three small indicator lights above the filter button will let you know when your air filter is running cleanly or when replacement is necessary. Holding this button resets the countdown.

In the center of the control panel is the power switch. A circular indicator light around this button shows you in real-time how pure your air is. The colors range from blue, which indicates excellent quality, to purple, which means very unhealthy air.

One oddity of the control panel is the existence of a Wi-Fi symbol in the corner.

These units are not Wi-Fi enabled. They aren’t even controller compatible. This is most likely a call-out to a potential feature that never actually made it into the production model.

Aside from this one confusing trait, the BreatheSmart is very user friendly and simple enough to program.

Maintenance and Warranty

One aspect of the BreatheSmart that we dislike is the way the air filters are set up.

Similar products with multiple filter layers allow for single filter replacement. This is a money-saving feature since it is rare for all the filters to need replacing at the same frequency.

Generally, the HEPA filters need to be changed out more often than the carbon and macro filters. Moreover, in a multi-layer setup, the outermost filter is often washable and reusable, which means it rarely needs to be replaced.

In this model, the filter layers are built as a single unit.

You can vacuum the outermost layer to help extend the filter’s life, but you can’t wash it. Once the HEPA filter reaches its maximum lifespan, you need to replace the entire filter. This can get pricey quickly.

Another critical thing to note about the BreatheSmart 75i filter is that there are multiple options available for purchase.

All standard units come with the Pure filter, which includes a true HEPA layer. The next step up is the Fresh filter, which contains an additional odor-absorbing layer. The Pet and Heavy filters have similar makeups, and both do an excellent job removing odors, toxins, pathogens, and allergens from the air.

While we don’t love how the filter system is set up, we believe the forever guarantee lifetime warranty more than makes up for this shortcoming. By registering your product and signing up for Alen’s filter subscription (which saves you 5% on filter replacements), your product is covered against defects forever.

This combined with Alen’s renowned customer service means less hassle for you if it needs repair and free replacement if repair isn’t possible.

Air Purifier Alternatives

While we love the many features of the BreatheSmart 75i purifier, it is not right for everyone.

If you are looking for a quality purifier with more power to clean a large space in less time, we recommend the Okaysou AirMax 10L

Like the Alen unit, this one is well-designed and utilizes a powerful filter to remove 99.97% of allergens and pollutants from the air. But unlike the BreatheSmart, this one can easily cover rooms of up to 1,000 square feet. It is also more affordable and allows for single filter replacements to save you money over the unit’s life.

Another option worth considering is the Blueair Blue Pure 211+

This ultra-compact unit has a unique square design that allows for 360-degree air intake for super-fast purifying performance. This unit is also Energy Star rated for consistent use. The removable and customizable pre-filter is especially useful for houses where pet hair, dust, and dander are frequent.

The Blueair easily matches the Alen in terms of durability, odor reduction, and particle filtering. Where it comes up short is that it lacks a HEPA-grade filter. While this would not be the best choice for those suffering from allergies, it is an excellent purifier for removing larger particles and odors from the air.

Things to Consider Before Buying an Air Purifier

Using an air purifier is one way to reduce the number of airborne pollutants in your home and improve your family’s health.

For those specifically seeking to target allergens, odors, and pathogens in medium-sized rooms, the Alen BreatheSmart 75i Air Purifier is an option worth considering. If you’re looking for a purifier to use in larger spaces, we recommend the similar Okaysou AirMax 10L

Before you commit to any air purifier, consider these questions first:

  • What size room will you be using the purifier in?
  • Are you going to use your purifier consistently enough to warrant paying extra for a lifetime warranty?

  • How important is noise output?
  • And, finally, is energy efficiency a big concern for you?
